Having woken up nice and early i start at 179 moore street , which i think is around Brooklyn way, and head towards a bridge to get onto Manhattan as i still needed to get few bits and pieces from camping store located near financial district.
The morning ride was stop start a lot of the time due to thee way the traffic system works here, but i got to see different districts of the city, jewish district, financial district. (More Photos Inside Post)

I managed to get to the waterside where there is special purpose build route for bikes leading up to George Washington bridge, en route to the bridge one of the bags dropped off without me noticing, i tried to go back and to find it but couldn’t, luckily there was only SPD shoes inside and not the other pannier which had my laptop and clothes.
After 2 hours delay due to me searching for the bag and talking to fellow tourer who was so kind in helping me look, i arrive at George Washington bridge .
The scale of the bridge is immense, towering over the Hudson river and shaking as the heavy A trucks and subway cross it.
Once on the other side the heat and my pour food management takes its toll and i take a break for hour or so.
Gathering my energy for the ride to the west, after some food i start riding west navigating only using a compass and hoping I’m heading in roughly right direction.
The terrain gets more hilly and the beaming sun gets hotter, at this point I’m cursing the weather and wishing for some British rain.
I cycle for hours and the houses never stop, i start to worry as it is now 8 pm local and the sun is starting to set.
I stop at a gasrrage and check out the map, i discover the progress i thought i have made was insignificant and i was slap bang in the suburbia of new york and i had at leas 5 hours or so navigating out of the area.
I suck it up turn on my lights and start to ride west as quickly as possible as some districts can be very intimidating especially with large gang of youths and pour lighting.
I start to get closer to the nature as there is more woodlands, but none that would be suitable as they are either too rocky too close to houses.
I come across town where at 12 pm they sounded bomb siren which spreads through town. and after being weirded out i cycle faster to try and get to the destination where camp site would be possible.
I ride 50 more and finally manage to find a clearing which is OK, being so tired i put up the tent and put my food from meal before up a tree just in case animals are in the area and crash out.
‘I come across town where at 12 pm they sounded bomb siren which spreads through town. and after being weirded out i cycle faster to try and get to the destination where camp site would be possible.’ Haha!! I love this image of you cycling away from some weird NY suburb. Awesome pic with the cop too – hope he wasn’t hating on you!!
Hope you’re having fun!
